Meet Our Team Monday: Getting to Know Our Newest Consultant, Greg Johnson

This week’s edition of “Meet Our Team Monday”  features our newest members to the DB&A family, Greg Johnson.  Greg joined Dickerson, Bakker & Associates in May  of 2018 as the Vice President of Client Services. With more than a decade of experience serving ministries and nonprofits around the globe, Greg brings more than his extensive knowledge of fundraising to our team; he brings a genuine enthusiasm & passion for philanthropy and the clients he serves. We sat down with Greg last week to get to know him a little better. Let’s see what he had to say during our Meet Our Team Interview.

Greg Johnson, Meet Our Team Monday Dickerson Bakker and Associates

What did you do before joining Dickerson, Bakker & Associates?

Before DB&A, I was the Chief Development Officer for Extreme Nazarene Missions. Extreme Nazarene Missions is based out of South America with the purpose of sending missionaries to form disciples who will then train more disciples around the world.

Where did you go to college?

I attended Anderson University.

How did you hear about Dickerson, Bakker & Associates?

I heard about DB&A through a job search I was conducting online. After reaching out to the President, Derric Bakker, about my interest in the VP of Client Services position I had an opportunity to meet with the Executive Leadership Team in Dallas and was offered the position soon after.

What made you decide to come work for Dickerson, Bakker & Associates?

I have been attracted to the thought of working for a consulting firm whose primary objective is to help nonprofits grow their development program. After conducting extensive research on DB&A, I found their strategy and emphasis on how fundraising should be conducted aligned with everything I believe a through strategically assessing, methodical planning and delivering exceptional results. They are also unashamedly Christian due to much of their approach is founded on Biblical principles.

What do you look forward to most when starting to work with a new client?

I love hearing from the client and seeing the passion they have behind what they do. Kingdom ministry is a calling and a specific charge to change lives. When I see the fire in their eyes when describing why they get up in the mornings understanding that today could be the day that a family has food on the table, or a father has the opportunity to find a job, or a single mother has a place for her children to sleep –  that’s what excites me! Showing organizations how to see that same passion from their donors through donor centered strategies is empowering.

What is one goal you hope to achieve with a client when starting a new project?

My goal is for the clients to see beyond what they think they know about fundraising and be open to new possibilities. It’s that change in view that allows them to envision a reality for the future of their organization that they only dreamed could happen. Once we achieve that goal, the rest of the work is ensuring that vision does, in fact, become a reality for them.

What is your favorite part about being a part of Dickerson, Bakker & Associates?

My favorite part? I would have to say my favorite part about being a consultant with DB&A is the opportunity to serve a broad-spectrum of ministries and organizations. Each of the clients that I work with have their own mission & unique approach to serving those in need but ultimately they all have one very important thing in common and that is that they care deeply about building the Kingdom.

What is one thing about you that might surprise people?

I love to sing (and praise God while doing it!) Since performing at a middle school talent show at age 12, I have always enjoyed singing in choir, touring the world with a music group called “The Continental Singers” and leading in worship at various churches. It brings me so much pleasure to give back in this way to God.
